Bronte grew up on a sheep and cattle station in the Channel Country region of Western Queensland. After many years in the sheep industry her family moved to a USDA National Organic Program (NOP) cattle operation. When Bronte returned home from boarding school in Toowoomba, she spent a year working at home where her love for the agricultural industry grew.

Bronte has worked for multiple drought stricken, extensive cattle operations where her interests in animal nutrition developed. Bronte is completing a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, majoring in Animal Production through the University of New England, Armidale with the hope of expanding her knowledge of the agricultural industry and in particular, the nutritional requirements of stock.

Bronte is working full time in Roma whilst completing her remaining studies, and she hopes to use her expanding nutritional knowledge to help producers grow a more efficient and consistent product to compete in the increasingly competitive agricultural industry.

  • John Cowen - Manager Mundubbera Depot

John grew up in Sarina on a small cattle block where his father bred and showed Braford cattle for 25 years. John always loved Brahman cattle and after helping his father breed for many years he sold the commercial cows he had been bred as a young boy and purchased his first stud cows in 1987.

John worked on properties west of Nebo after leaving school and experienced first-hand the effects of drought. He remembers the eighties as having the worst droughts for all cattlemen, with numerous livestock losses in the area. Dry licks were not available during this time and so they used M8U, a product developed by Moonin, which consisted of a mixture of molasses and 8% urea. This became a very effective way to drought feed cattle, but at the start John lost large numbers, as the cattle were too poor and over consumed.

John has been grain feeding a small number of bulls for the past 25 years and knows how hard it is to find the right product to do the job. He runs a small stud and commercial operation at Mundubbera and feeds lick to his breeders most of the year as well as a few bulls for paddock sales and shows.

John began working as the manager of the Top Country shed in Mundubbera in 2016. Top Country Mundubbera services all of the North Burnett and is currently expanding into the Burdekin area. As a cattle producer and advocate for Top Country, John is only too happy to pass on his stories of success and failure to anyone who is willing to listen.

  • Caroline Hope - Sales & Nutrition Western Downs, SW & Southern Maranoa QLD

Caroline spent her childhood on the back of a horse. Some of her best memories are of mustering with her family in the mountains of Killarney where they have had cattle for six generations. After finishing school, Caroline worked in the Northern Territory which developed her love for wide-open spaces and extensive beef operations. Nutrition has always been a passion of Caroline’s and she originally left the NT to study a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition in Brisbane. However, after year of study in this field, she could not ignore her love of all things four-legged and the country and so left the city and decided to go back to station life outside of Winton, QLD.

Witnessing what drought does first hand and how hard stock-owners work to keep their animals going through tough times at Winton, was what truly cemented her interest in helping primary producers. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, Caroline peeled potatoes, picked avocadoes and milked sheep for work to fund her Polocrosse addiction, all whilst completing a dual degree of a Bachelor of Agribusiness and Bachelor of Applied Science (Animal Science) at UQ Gatton. After graduating, Caroline started with Top Country in Roma. Top Country has enabled her to utilise her love of nutrition to help producers increase productivity and profitability through strategic supplementation. Caroline is now the Sales Nutritionist servicing the Western Downs, South-West & Southern Maranoa regions of Queensland.
